Jay Goetschius is a managing director at Abbot Downing. He serves ultra-high-net-worth families and individuals, as well as endowments and foundations, in the New York metro area, New England, and Florida. He is dedicated to delivering Abbot Downing's boutique family office solutions, complemented by the world-class resources of Wells Fargo. Jay goes beyond traditional financial services and helps clients manage the full impact of unique wealth, addressing its financial, social, and personal dimensions to help preserve and grow assets while building legacies across generations.
Jay has spent over 25 years working with private clients on a range of complex wealth management issues, including investment policy development, portfolio construction and asset allocation, risk management, and tax and estate planning. Most recently, he was a principal and senior wealth advisor for Bessemer Trust in Palm Beach, Florida. Prior to Bessemer Trust, he was a co-founding partner and head of client relationship management of HPM Partners LLC in New York. Prior to that, Jay spent 13 years with BNY Mellon Wealth Management, most recently as managing director and head of business development for New York City. He also held senior roles in Bank of New York’s Charitable Gift Services and Private Banking divisions and served on their Trust Investment Committee as a regional fiduciary officer. His career began in wealth management as a top lending officer at Chase Personal Financial Services after completing Chase Manhattan Bank’s management development program.
Jay earned his master’s degree in finance from Seton Hall University and his bachelor’s degree in economics from St. Lawrence University. He is a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA®). Jay and his wife Michele are raising two teenage sons, Jack and Alex, and a chocolate lab named Finn.
