Mary Mewha is a managing director in the San Francisco office. She manages client relationships for the Northwest region of Abbot Downing. Prior to her current role, she was the regional managing director where she was responsible for Abbot Downing operations and client relationships across the Northwest region, which included Northern California, the Pacific Northwest, and Mountain states. She assumed that role for five years. Wealth management has been Mary’s focus for more than 20 of over 35 years in financial services.
Before joining Wells Fargo in 2009, Mary launched a Family Wealth practice at First Republic Bank. She worked at US Trust from 1997-2005 where she was ultimately regional president in Northern California after building UST’s first family wealth group outside of New York in San Francisco. Mary was also senior vice president and manager of Private Client Services at Wells Fargo/First Interstate for a combined seven years. She held positions as vice president of Corporate Finance at both First Interstate Bank and Prudential Capital, responsible for originating and underwriting senior, mezzanine and leveraged buy-out debt for firms from the middle market to the Fortune 100.
Mary graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in economics from California State University in Los Angeles, and pursued graduate studies in economics at the University of Illinois. Mary is a graduate of the ABA Graduate Trust School and has completed four separate certification programs at the Wharton School: Wharton’s pension and asset management program, private wealth management program, investment strategist program and certified investment management programs. Mary is a Certified Investment Management Analyst® and is a Chartered Trust and Financial Analyst (CTFA).
Mary is a trustee for the San Francisco Ballet board and serves on the Ballet’s Development, Education and School Committees. Previous non-profit activities include Chair for the Oakland YMCA, board member of the San Francisco Bay Area YMCA, and work with the development and advisory committees of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Mary and her husband, Henry, have three children. They make their home in Larkspur, a suburb north of San Francisco.
