Senior Director, National Markets
Robert is senior director of national markets at Abbot Downing with primary responsibility for the firm’s new business development efforts in the U.S.
A Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) professional with over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, Robert began his career with First Union National Bank where he served in leadership roles in consumer banking, commercial banking, and the investment management and trust services business. Following roles with Sunbelt Capital as executive vice president and Centura Bank (now PNC Bank) as managing director of the Private Client Group, Robert moved to Wachovia Bank (a Wells Fargo predecessor firm) in 2004 to establish the National Office of Wachovia Wealth Management. As managing director, Robert established the first successful partnership with Wachovia’s corporate and investment banking teams, and led a team of advisors providing financial advice to business owners and corporate executives across the U.S.
Following Wachovia’s merger with Wells Fargo in 2009, Robert assisted in the integration of three separate businesses to form Abbot Downing, Wells Fargo’s private wealth management business serving ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, family offices, endowments, and foundations. In his current capacity, Robert supports 13 offices across the United States, consulting with individuals and families with liquid net worth ranging from $50 million to over $1 billion. Robert specializes in helping clients navigate the difficult transition from the sale of a closely held business to the establishment of a successful family enterprise.
Robert earned a bachelor's degree from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. He resides in Charlotte, North Carolina with his wife and three children.
